Privacy Policy
Athan – Prayer Times & Qibla · Effective October 12, 2026
Athan works without an account, shows no ads, and uses no analytics. The only personal data the app touches is your location — used on your phone to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. Your location is never sent to us or shared with anyone.
1. Information we collect
Precise location. When you grant permission, the app reads your device's location (GPS) to determine accurate prayer times for where you are and to point the Qibla compass toward Makkah. You can deny location access at any time in your device settings; the app will fall back to a manually saved location or an approximate one.
We do not collect: your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, or any other personal information. There is no sign-up and no user account.
2. How we use your location
- To compute the five daily prayer times for your position, using the calculation method you select (e.g. ISNA).
- To calculate the Qibla bearing from your position to the Kaaba in Makkah.
- To label your city/region on screen.
All calculations happen on your device. Your location is not transmitted to our servers — we operate no servers that receive it — and it is never sold, rented, or shared with advertisers, analytics providers, or any third party.
3. Data storage & security
Your settings (calculation method, Asr madhab, theme, saved location) are stored only in the app's private storage on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes everything. Because we never receive your data, there is no account database that could be breached.
4. Children's privacy
Athan is a general-audience utility suitable for the whole family. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and since the app collects no account or contact information from anyone, there is nothing for a child to submit. Parents: location permission is managed in your device's system settings.
5. Third-party services
The app contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no social-media SDKs. Reverse-geocoding (turning coordinates into a city name for display) is performed through standard public geocoding endpoints; only the coordinates needed for the lookup are sent, and no identifier is attached.
6. Your choices
- Location: grant, deny, or revoke anytime in system Settings → Athan → Location.
- Notifications: prayer-time alerts are optional and controlled in system Settings.
- Delete everything: uninstall the app — all locally stored data is removed.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
